Class Components

Stretching
Every class starts with a series of stretches. Our stretching is a complete system from
head to ankles. When done on a regular basis this stretching can improve the quality of
muscles, tendons and ligaments. Our stretching with deep abdominal breathing helps to
eliminate waste and activate the lymphatic system.
Regular stretching can also improve the speed and efficiency of the lymph system.
With three different versions of stretching (static, active and dynamic) the stretching
routine never gets boring!

Basic Techniques
To the beginner student, our may look a lot like any other martial art that
emphasises punching and kicking. However the techniques we use have been
developed to ensure maximum powerwith every technique, and designed so that
the technique does not harm the practitioner. Our students are taught to
utilize their whole body to generate phenomenal power in both punches and kicks.
Basic techniques are the building blocks of our system and enable the student to
perform their patterns, speed drills, defense drills and airshield drills.
This section of the class enables the student to practise and hone their basic techniques
under the watchful eyes of the instructors.

Patterns
Patterns use a combination of basic techniques, they are practised for self-defense with imaginary opponent(s). Each technique in a pattern is practical and has the same movement as when performing basic techniques. Performing patterns increases the students self-defense skills, and reinforces muscle memory. Patterns are also designed to offer a total body workout. By performing all of the patterns from White belt through to Black belt the student will use every major muscle group in the body. The speed at which the pattern is performed can also be varied, the faster they are performed the more the student works on their cardiovascular ability. By performing the patterns at a slower, more deliberate pace for a longer duration the student can increase their metabolic rate. This helps the body process body fat into energy.

Speed Drills
Speed drills are a series of offensive techniques, performed as the name implies at a rapid pace.
They develop the students anaerobic fitness, speed and agility. They also help to develop the fast-twitch muscle response necessary to respond quickly to any attack.

Defense Drills
We do not allow students to spar in class or fight in competitions. Students however need to be able to practise their blocking and self defense skills in order for them to become second nature. Our system uses the defense drills to do this. Through these drills students learn how to apply their blocks and dodges, how to angle around their attacker and to counter attack quickly.
These defense drills progressivly build the students confidence and reactions, they are taught to block a large variety of techniques (both hand and foot attacks) and once comfortable with blocking, how to move around their opponent to reduce the techniques that can be used against them.

Shield Drills
Airshield drills are where our students can demonstrate the
awesome power generated by the techniques of the art. The shield is hit
with a barrage of attacks using hands, feet, elbows, knees and headbutts.
Large padded shields are used are used as targets for the students who attack
with fast powerful combinations of techniques. Through the various different
drills students not only work on power and speed, but also on their endurance.
Going all out on a shield for even 30 seconds can be a very tiring experience.
